Jahan-e-Khusrau

Jahan-e-Khusrau, the Annual World Sufi Music Festival was Launched in Delhi in 2001. Muzaffar Ali in Collaboration with Goverment of Rajasthan and Rumi Foundation presented the “Insaniyat ka Paigham” the third edition of Jahan-e-Khusrau in Jaipur at Central Park on 5th and 6th October 2013 from 7 in the evening. The dates of Jahan e Khusrau 2014 is not fixed yet but hopefully it will take place in October only. The artists performed this year at Jahan e Khusrau were – Deveshi Sahgal (India), Malini Awasthi (India), Abida Parveen (Pakistan), Sonam Kalra (India), Astha Dixit (India) and Lofti Bouchnak (Tunsania).

Each year Jahan e Khusrau presents rare lyrics of Sufi mystics in an innovative form. Over the last decade it has showcased Sufi singers, dancers and musicians from different parts of India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Uzbekistan, Iran, Israel, Morocco, Tunisia, Turkey, Italy, Sudan, Egypt, Greece, Germany, Japan, USA and Canada. The festival has been presenting masters such as Shubha Mudgal, Shafqat Ali Khan, Ila Arun, Sukhwinder Singh, Malavika Sarrukai, Shujaat Hussain Khain and Abida Parveen amongst many others.

This whole Festival was the Treat for the Jaipur People and I would say all the artists were brilliant but for me the icing on the cake was the Voice of “Deveshi Saghal” she really have a different and beautiful voice her singing was really a treat.

Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Muzaffar Ali said “One of our most important objectives for this festival has been to create a bridge between the East and the West and make the audience realize its universalism and develop new audiences for global Sufi music.”
I would say that no one can do this festival better than Rajah Muzaffar Ali  He was born on 21 October 1944, Lucknow. Is an Indian filmmaker, a fashion designer, a poet, an artist, a music-lover, a revivalist, and a social worker. He belongs to a Royal Muslim Rajput family of Kotwara. His best known work is the 1981 film starring Rekha & Farooq Sheikh "Umrao Jaan".
